Job Desription
The General Manager (GM) is responsible for the day-to-day operational management of all field construction and plant activities at Virgin Islands Paving. Reporting directly to the Vice President of Operations, the GM translates strategic direction into actionable execution, ensuring projects and production operations run efficiently, safely, and profitably.
This role serves as the operational integrator between field teams, plant managers, project managers, and department heads.
Key Responsibilities
Daily Operations Management
Oversee daily field operations across paving, bridges, utilities, and earthwork divisions.
Coordinate with asphalt and concrete plant managers to align production with project schedules.
Ensure equipment, manpower, and materials are deployed efficiently.
Troubleshoot operational bottlenecks and implement solutions.
Project Execution Oversight
Monitor project schedules, budgets, and quality benchmarks.
Ensure project managers and superintendents meet performance targets.
Conduct regular jobsite visits and operational reviews.
Ensure proper documentation, reporting, and cost tracking.
Workforce & Supervision
Supervise project managers, superintendents, plant managers, and field supervisors.
Maintain staffing levels to meet project demand.
Enforce performance standards and accountability.
Support training and workforce development initiatives.
Budget & Cost Control
Assist in preparing operational budgets.
Monitor job cost reports and flag variances to the VP of Operations.
Improve operational efficiency and cost-effectiveness.
Manage equipment maintenance planning and utilization.
Safety & Compliance
Enforce safety protocols across all worksites and facilities.
Ensure compliance with regulatory and environmental requirements.
Lead safety meetings and operational briefings.
Communication & Coordination
Serve as liaison between field operations and executive leadership.
Provide regular performance updates to the VP of Operations.
Collaborate with estimating and business development teams to support bid preparation.
Qualifications
7–10 years experience in heavy civil construction or paving operations.
Strong understanding of field management and plant coordination.
Demonstrated leadership of multi-crew operations.
Experience with scheduling software and project cost control systems.
Strong organizational and problem-solving skills.
Base Salary Range
$175,000 – $225,000 annually(Commensurate with experience, qualifications, and operational scope)
